Roger’s Dream Team member

Cara Dance

Caroline (Cara) Dance brings real determination and a fighter’s spirit to the team. Her challenges have resulted from Trisomy 13, a genetic disorder that is not compatible with life, but she is not letting anything slow her down. Most babies born with Trisomy 13 do not live more than a few hours, days or a month. At one year old, she was a long term survivor. Now 5 1/2 years old, she is doing well as she has no major system problems at the moment. Her immune system takes a beating when sick with flu/cold, but she's a tough nut and fights germs with everything she's got!

This can-do spirit will be her key asset as part of the Walk, Roll and Run Dream Team squad. Her parents and sister will be cheering her on. According to her mother, Cara’s diagnosis has given us a new perspective on life. We now see more clearly than ever how precious life is and how so much of life’s stresses are not the major catastrophes they appear to be.

Her mother also says, “If we didn't have Roger's House, I don't know how we would be doing as a family. Friends and family are helpful, but really can't care for her for any length of time as her routine and needs can be overwhelming, even when she is in peak form. Roger's House staff and volunteers are unbelievable and pick up the routines so well!” Cara’s favourite things to do at Roger's House are to play the piano or the Wiggles guitar, go for walks and play in the playground.
